Bafana Bafana fans blamed Veli Mothwa following the team’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Uganda at the Orlando Stadium on Friday evening.

Bafana, without their injured captain Ronwen Williams, started the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Mothwa in goals. The home side put pressure on the Ugandans early on and were rewarded in the 14th minute when Lyle Foster slotted home a through ball.

Bafana continued to search for the second goal but Ismail Watenga made several saves to keep his side in the game. Hugo Broos’ men went into half-time feeling more confident having created more chances than their African counterparts.

It took only five minutes for Uganda to find the opener in the second half. Denis Omedi unleashed a shoot just inside the box to leave Veli Mothwa with no chance.

The AmaZulu keeper was beaten again a few minutes later. A strike from nearly 40 yards was completely mishandled by Mothwa, giving Uganda the lead. After the goal, Bafana searched for the equaliser but the Cranes’ defence remained solid.

With only a minute left, substitute Thalenthe Mbatha fired a shoot with his left foot to earn Bafana a draw. After the match, some Bafana fans blamed Veli Mothwa for allowing the away side to score the second goal.
