Much to the disappointment of Sharks fans, Siya Kolisi is rumoured to be in talks to return to his home club, the Stormers, in the Western Cape. According to reports, he may be doing so to be closer to his family, including his estranged wife, Rachel.

Siya first joined the Stormers – his club – in 2012.  Almost a decade later, he inked a deal with the Durban competitors. After a short stint in France’s Racing92, Siya returned to the “Shark tank.”

In October, Siya and Rachel announced the end of their eight-year marriage. Siya currently lives in KwaZulu-Natal while his family – including his two children – are based in Cape Town.

SIYA KOLISI IN TALKS TO RETURN TO STORMERS

According to rugby commentator Jared Wright, Siya Kolisi was in talks to leave the Sharks for the Stormers, his first professional club.

This included likely taking a pay cut to return to Cape Town, where his two children and his estranged wife live.

At the Sharks, Siya – the Springboks captain – plays alongside the likes of Eben Etzebeth, Makazole Mapimpi, Ox Nche, Andre Estherhuisen, and many more players. Should he make the move, Siya will rejoin players like Damian Willemse, Manie Libbok, and Frans Malherbe.

After signing with the Sharks in 2021, Siya Kolisi shockingly revealed his plans to play abroad at Racing92 in Paris after the 2023 Rugby World Cup. However, after less than a year, Siya and the club mutually ended their contract.

According to reports, businessman Vincent Mai paid a hefty R17 million transfer fee to release Siya back to the Sharks. The 34-year-old was confirmed to have signed on for the 2024/2025 season.

MIXED REACTIONS FROM FANS

Rugby fans – particularly Sharks supporters – are no doubt disappointed at the reports that Siya Kolisi could soon be leaving the club again.

@anton_claassens: “He must go. We do not want players who are half-in.”

Others are more sympathetic that the move may be a personal one.

@sandraspitzy: “It makes sense. His children are in Cape Town.”

@OJKombe: “Clear indication of an impending rugby retirement.”

@16dyason: “I assume he wants to live out the rest of his years where he started?
