“The SANDF has convened a Board of Inquiry to work with the Monusco command to investigate the incident and the circumstances that led to it.”

The soldiers were deployed as part of the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). According to the SANDF, the soldier was shot and killed with a service weapon before the assailant turned it on himself.
