Mayihlome Tshwete (born December 10, 1982) is a renowned South African personality and businessperson. He is best known for serving as the spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs.

The articulated young man hails from a respected family who active parts against the Apartheid. His father is also a politician and influential.

Early Life

Mayihlome Tshwete was born on December 10, 1982, to anti-Apartheid activists Steve Tshwete and Pamela MaMzangwa.

His father and mother played unforgettable roles in opposing the Apartheid regime. His father was a member of the ruling party, the African National Congress, of which he is a member.

Mayihlome joined South African politics following in the footsteps of his parents. He is the oldest of three with a younger brother Lindela Tshwete and a younger sister Yonda Tshwete.

His father had a close relationship with former president Nelson Mandela. They built the relationship after being locked up in Robben Island prison during the apartheid era.

In 2002, his father Steve Tshwete died, and Nelson Mandela sponsored his education. His mother Pamela Tshwete is active in South African politics. She serves as the current Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation in South Africa.

Mayihlome Tshwete attended primary and high school in prestigious schools in South Africa. He studied and obtained a degree in a renowned institution.

Career

Mayihlome Tshwete hails from a respected family in South African politics. His father was the former South African Minister of Safety and Security before his death.

Lindela, his younger brother, and Mayihlome Tshwete are politicians. He is a member of the ruling party African National Congress (ANC) and has served in many political capacities since the start of his career in 2010.

Mayihlome was the spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs and worked as the head of communication for the department. He worked closely with the then minter of Home Affairs Mausi Gigaba.

In 2018, he left the position due to personal reasons and his resignation was peaceful and without drama. The Department was impressed with all his doings and spoke highly of him.

They started to date shortly after and got married on December 11, 2015, at Eastern Cape in King William’s Town.

The duo is blessed with a son named after Mayihlonme’s father Vukile. He is also known for his comments against xenophobia inSouth Africa.
