Marija Šerifović is a Serbian singer, widely recognized for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, Finland, with her song “Molitva.”

Early Life And Education
Marija Šerifović was born on November 14, 1984, in Kragujevac, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia. She is the only daughter of musicians Verica and Rajko Šerifović. When Verica was nine months pregnant with Marija, Rajko left her for another woman, with whom he had a son, Danijel Pavlović, a singer and vocal coach.
Marija also has a brother named Dušan Šerifović. She attended Megatrend University and First Kragujevac Gymnasium. She is of Serbian ethnicity, and while her religion is not publicly known.
Career
Marija Šerifović began her career in 1998, making her recording debut with the song “Moje bube,” which she recorded with her mother. Her first album, Naj, Najbolja, was released in 2003 under City Records.
The following year, she gained recognition by winning the first prize at the Pjesma Mediterana festival in Budva with her song “Bol do ludila.” In 2006, she released her second album Bez Ljubavi, which was followed by her first solo concert at Sava Centar in Belgrade in 2007.
In March 2007, Šerifović participated in the Serbian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Molitva.” Her performance won the competition and she went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, Finland, marking Serbia’s first and only victory in the competition.
In 2008, she released her third studio album Nisam anđeo, which sold 120,000 copies, and a year later, she released Anđeo, which sold 100,000 copies.
Šerifović continued to establish herself as a popular artist with her 2009 announcement of a solo concert at the Belgrade Arena. In 2010, she participated in the reality show Farma, but left after 27 days.
That same year, she released a documentary film titled Ispovest (Confession), where she opened up about her sexual orientation and personal struggles, including domestic abuse from her father. This documentary was followed by an autobiography of the same name in 2014.
In May 2014, Šerifović released her fifth album Hrabro, which sold 50,000 copies. In September 2015, she joined the singing competition Zvezde Granda as a judge. As a mentor, she helped Džejla Ramović win in 2019 and Mahir Mulalić in 2021. She also released a series of singles between 2015 and 2016, including “Pametna i luda” and “Sama i nervozna.”
