Early Life and Education

Maia Sandu was born on May 24, 1972, in Risipeni, Moldova. She is the only child of Emilia Sandu and Grigore Sandu.

Sandu earned a degree in management from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM). In 2010, she furthered her education by graduating from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Of Moldovan ethnicity, she practices Christianity.
