Biography

Madoda Mxakwe is the Chief Executive Officer of the South African Broadcasting Corp Ltd. He started working with the broadcaster in 2018. His five-year contract ends on June 30, 2023.

Mxakwe started working as the CEO of the SABC in 2018 in a blaze of national goodwill in the early months of Cyril Ramaphosa’s presidency. 

Education

Madoda Mxakwe holds a master’s degree from the University of Sussex. He also has a Ph.D. from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Career

Madoda joined SABC in 2018. At that time, the broadcaster struggled with governance failures, corruption, gross mismanagement, and a financial crisis.

After completing his tenure as the CEO, he becomes the first SABC Chief Executive in over 15 years. Since Frans Matlala left, the SABC did not have a permanent CEO. The public broadcaster has had twelve CEOs since 2009. 

After working with the SABC for five years, his tenure will end on June 30, 2023. After leaving office, he becomes the first SABC Group Chief Executive Officer to complete his contract in over 15 years.

Mr. Mxakwe joined the public broadcaster in 2018, when it faced governance failures, among others. He and the management had a close-work relationship with the employees and the board to reverse the situation.

They strived to return the SABC on a recovery path and rebuild its credibility. Madoda Mxakwe served as the Chief Executive Officer of Nestle in January 2005.
