Liopelo Maphathe (born 1982) is a South African presenter and actress. She is best known for playing Luyanda on the e.tv soap opera Backstage in 2000.

The actress has played other notable roles in many series, such as aYeYe as Lerato, Backstage as Luyanda, Durban Gen as Palesa Ndlela, and eKasi: Our Stories as Palesa.

Liopelo Maphathe was born in 1982 in Lesotho, and grew up in thelandlocked kingdom.

Maphathe holds a degree in performing arts from the University of the Orange Free State.

Career

After completing her studies, she moved to Johannesburg. It wasn’t long before she got a role in the Sesotho drama series Sergeant Kokobela.

Liopelo starred as Luyanda in the now-defunct youth soap opera Backstage in 2000. She has since then appeared in many other television productions like Muvhango, Crossroads, Gaz’lam, Jozi Streets, and Scandal!

The actress appeared in the series Madam & Eve. She appeared in the short film Afrikano as The Bride. She was an insert presenter in the SABC2 music show Afro Café in September 2008.

Lesego Matlakala was the role she played in the SABC2 sitcom Moferefere Lenyalong. Her character was a stylist, fashionista, and Sugel.

Maphathe starred as the last born and the only girl child of the royal and wealthy Ledwaba family in the Sepedi version of the Setswana royal Bafokeng family in the eKasi+ sitcom Van ‘n Sit.

Liopelo Maphathe was in having an extramarital affair with a high-flying businessman. The man is the husband of a media mogul and a beauty queen. 

The affair almost ruined her acting career as the man’s wife went around to block Liopelo’s career. She went to all platforms she had connections and relationships with to tell them not to hire Liopelo.

Maphathe reported his wife’s activities, and he assured her that she did not have much power. Liopelo saw the man as William Shakespeare’s ultimate Romeo, and she was Juliet. She had an affair with the man for years until it ended in 2013.
