Biography

Lemogang Tsipa (born May 6, 1991) is a South African actor. He is best known for playing the hilarious role of Dini Masilela in the eKasi+. He has also appeared in many television drama series aired on National TV. 

Playing Dini Masilela gained Tsipa prominence, and he is one of the viewer’s favorites. He booked his debut television role in the comedy miniseries Forced Love in 2012.

Tsipa was born on May 6, 1991, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His mother raised him and his siblings in the culture of the Zulu.

Growing up in Empangeni, he fell in love with acting and has performed in many fictional roles since Grade 11. He was a vigorous child who was also notoriously talkative. 

The actor was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder when he was nine.

Education

Lemogang attended Grantleigh College in Richards Bay to study drama. He also studied at a film school (AFDA Cape Town Campus).

Career

Acting

Tsipa has appeared on local and international stages. He made his debut in a local film in 2013 after playing Felix. Since then, he has landed many roles in award-winning movies and television productions.

One of his top local roles is Bambatha in the short-lived daily drama Isithembiso. He has established a presence on the international scene. He appeared in Eye in the Sky, Wallander, Homeland, Alien Outpost, The Dark Tower, Troy: Fall of a City, Roots, Black Sails, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and many more.

Lemogang features in the Showmax series Blood Psalms. He plays Sizwe in season 2 of the Mzansi Magic drama The Republic. He is best known for his role as Dini Masilela in the detective drama series Traffic!

In a miniseries adapted from Taming of the Shrew titled Forced Love, he played Themba. Penguin Films produced the show as part of the SABC1 “Shakespeare in Mzansi” strand.

The actor starred as the dangerous Zulu-speaking local gangster and entrepreneur Smiley in the SABC1 boxing drama series JAB. He appeared in season 2 of the drama series When We Were Black as Jomo Gotjane.

Music

Though everyone knows him for his roles as an actor, he loves music more. He started participating in musical activities at age 11. He is a drummer and joined some bands in genres like heavy metal, rock, neo-soul, and reggae.

The actor has appeared in many music festivals, including Rocking the Daisies. He plans to release his solo album in 2023. 

Personal Life

The name of Lemogang’s parents are Alfred Tsipa and Sally. He has two siblings. Sadly, in 2017, his father passed away but left a legacy as an authoritative Christian speaker.

Tsipa speaks Zulu and English as first languages. He can also communicate in Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Sesotho.
