Kaizer Chiefs have had a tough time converting opportunities in front of goal so far this season.
Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has made it clear that a striker is a priority ahead of the upcoming January window.Â
Chiefs crying out for a striker
In the current campaign there has been very little to suggest that will change. Currently, Chiefs are relying on Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez as their main source of goals. The duo have not been a overwhelming successes as again, like previous seasons have performed in flashes.Â
Chivaviro has had four goals in 10 matches in all competitions this season while du Preez has had three. They have also missed a multitude of clear cut opportunities which has seen Nabi renew his cry for a striker. While Chiefs are rumoured to be ready to launch a bid for Nabi’s preferred target Fiston Mayele, they could have another option.Â
Chiefs can still go on to pursue the experience of a player like Mayele. This as an experienced marksman is always a safer bet, especially an international that has a good scoring record. In the case of the Pyramids FC man, he has done so in a couple of top leagues on the continent. But to supplement that, Nabi could look to his DDC structures for more solutions. This in the shape of teenage striker Naledi Hlongwane.Â
Hlongwane an option for Nabi?
Hlongwane combined with fellow Chiefs player Samkelo Zwane to score the opening goal for the All Stars against Magesi. He would then go on to add a second and win Man of the Match in a 3-0 victory. He combined well with another club mate Ashley du Preez and former schoolmate and Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng.Â
Hlongwane also showed great composure in front of goal, scoring both of his goals with his weaker left foot. The speed, composure and finishing abilities are some characteristics that have been lacking for Amakhosi of late. Could this combination tempt Nabi to promote the youngster to supplement his attacking options at Chiefs?Â
Chiefs fans, would you like to see Hlongwane given a chance in the first team? Or is it too soon? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.Â
