Jemima Marcelle Goldsmith was born on 30 January 1974 in Chelsea, London, England, United Kingdom. She is the eldest child of Lady Annabel Goldsmith and financier Sir James Goldsmith.
Her mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, comes from an aristocratic Anglo-Irish family and is the daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry. Her father, Sir James Goldsmith, was the son of a luxury hotel tycoon and former Conservative Member of Parliament (MP), Major Frank Goldsmith.
