Faiq Jefri Bolkiah is a professional footballer born on May 9, 1998, in Los Angeles, California, United States. He is the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah, though his mother’s name is unknown. Faiq has three siblings: Bahar Bolkiah, Abdul Hakeem Jefri Bolkiah, and Hamidah Jamalul Bolkiah.
Faiq was educated in Great Britain at Bradfield College. He is of Bruneian ethnicity and is a member of the Brunei royal family, making him a Prince of Brunei. Despite being born in the United States, Faiq practices Islam as his religion.
Career
Faiq Bolkiah began his professional career in the late 2000s. In 2009, he signed a one-year deal with the Southampton Academy. He remained with Southampton until at least December 2011.
In 2014, Bolkiah signed a two-year youth contract with Premier League club Chelsea after training with Reading and trialling with Arsenal. During his time with Arsenal, he competed in the 2013 Lion City Cup.
On September 23 2020, Bolkiah signed on a free transfer to Marítimo of Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Three months later, he made his debut with Marítimo’s under-23 team.
Forty-five days after that, he was named a Marítimo substitute for the first time in a league match. On April 11 2021, he made his senior debut for Marítimo B.
In December 2021, Bolkiah joined Thai League 1 club Chonburi, becoming the first-ever Bruneian to join a Thai club. He scored his first goal for Chonburi in November 2022.
On June 16 2023, Bolkiah signed with Ratchaburi for the 2023–24 Thai League 1 season. He made his debut for Ratchaburi as a substitute on August 19 2023, and scored his first goal for the club a month later.
Bolkiah was eligible to represent the United States and Brunei. He chose to represent Brunei at the U19 and U23 levels, including at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, where he scored in a match against Timor-Leste. He made his senior international debut for Brunei in 2016.
