Education
Dave had his matriculation at Robertson High and furthered his academic pursuit at Saasveld. He studied Forestry at the institution.
After which he furthered his academic pursuit at Cambridge, the United Kingdom. From the institution, he obtained a Master of Philosophy in Animal Science.
Career
On January 5, 2004, he appeared first on the screen of the television nature show Groen. Ever since he has been presenting.
Every week, Dave records a program in a new environment giving viewers of the show an “up-close” and “personal experience” of nature.
He travels around South Africa. He also travels to neighboring countries including Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. His grandfather Boy le Roux encouraged him to explore the veldt as a youngster. Today it has brought him to the limelight.
Dave lectured at the Department of Environmental Ecology at the University of Stellenbosch and retired in 2005.
He is still involved Centre for Invasive Biology (CIB), the United States, and still is a lecturer. Currently, Dave operates as an environmental consultant to Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Chile. As a writer, he regularly writes for VISI and INSIG.
Recognitions
He has taken home several awards in different categories. In 2001, he bagged the Molteno Medal of the Cape Tercentenary Foundation for his contribution to conservation.
The year 2007 came with another award for Dave. He bagged the Stevenson Hamilton Award for his contribution to Zoology. The award happens to be the highest honor of the Zoological Society of South Africa.
