Cape Town Spurs forward Ashley Cupido is poised for a big move to Stellenbosch FC, according to recent reports from The South African.

Spurs striker Cupido is on the brink of joining Stellenbosch. The move comes as Stellies looks to replace Iqraam Rayners, who recently transferred to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Cape Winelands club previously made a significant multi-million bid for several Spurs players, including Cupido but it was turned down. Now, this publication can reveal that a club-to-club agreement between Stellenbosch and Cape Town Spurs has been finalised. But all other aspects of the deal is not yet completed.

Cupido, a 23-year-old striker, has attracted attention from multiple top teams, including Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. This is thanks to his impressive performance last season where he netted eight goals in the South African top flight. Despite the Urban Warriors’ relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship(MFC). The club’s aim is to retain its key players to secure promotion. But financial pressures force them to sell.

Ongoing negotiations and potential transfer complications

Sources indicate that while there is a confirmed club-to-club agreement, the exact transfer fee and personal terms remain undisclosed. However allegedly it’s been suggested that the club has instructed Cupido to skip training tomorrow.

The source spoke saying, “Significant progress has been made on this deal. A club-to-club agreement is now in place between Stellenbosch and Cape Town Spurs for Ash (Ashley Cupido). However, the exact transfer fee and personal terms are still not clear. He has been instructed not to report for regular training tomorrow but instead to meet at the club at 13:00.”

Cupido played for the Urban Warriors in their opening game. It was a goalless draw against AmaTuks at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the MFC.

Cape Town Spurs’ rejection of other offers

In related news, Cape Town Spurs recently turned down a second offer from Stellenbosch for their captain, Chumani Butsaka. The offer included R5 million plus a 20% sell-on clause, but Spurs, led by coach Ernst Middendorp, are determined to keep Butsaka. He is considered one of Middendorp’s key players. Previously we also reported that Cape Town Spurs have also rejected Kaizer Chiefs’ bid for highly-rated midfielder Asanele Velebayi, signalling their intention to hold onto their standout performers.
