Aubrey Qwana (born in 1992 in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal) is a South African rapper, producer, arranger, and designer. He has gained popularity for his unique music genre of Maskandi, Mbaqanga, Arna Zion, Hip Hop, and R&B.

The popular Afro-Soul musician has also had a collaboration with other big names in the country including Sho Madjozi, Emtee, EStilo Magolide, DJ Tira, Major League, and Makwa Beats.

He has not been in the music industry for years but that did not disturb his gold single with Ngaqonywa. Aubrey is among the popular and most sought after South African artists.

He hails from Ulundi, a town in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa where he grew up.

Aubrey is the son of Audrey Buhlebakhe, she died when he was 12 years of age. He decided to honor his mother by sharing a song he wrote for her as ‘Mother’s Day’ 2020 approached.

Aubrey dropped the song Ngicel’ Ubuye which could translate to Please come back in honor of his late mother.

“With this Sunday being Mother’s Day I have decided to honor her by sharing a song I wrote for her this Friday and I hope this will also help those who have lost their mothers heal and remember all the good memories they had”.

Accident

The artiste had an unfortunate experience in 2019 after he was involved in a car accident that almost claimed his life.

The rapper with his manager was returning from Denver when his car, Mercedes Benz C-Class, burst into flames. The car which was driven by Celimpili Manyarhi, his manager, caught fire and the entire vehicle was affected.

Luck smiled on them as no injuries were recorded as they escaped for their lives before the fire could reach them.

The artist labeled the whole incident as “an act of witchcraft”, the car at that time had an estimated worth of around R700,000. Aubrey did not take the incident to the police, and the six-month-old car was not insured.

“We are quite shocked, especially due to how it happened. We are devastated. Much thought is running through our minds,” said Manyathi.

Career

Aubrey has grown to be a big name in the South African entertainment industry.

His hit song promoted the artist gaining him fame, fans, and cash. He has not failed to impress music lovers with his unique delivery of tribal flavors in his songs.

In 2019, he made his debut after he recorded and released hit songs like Ngaqonywa featuring DJ Tira.

Aubrey has also featured popular South African female rapper Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif a.k.a Sho Madjozi in the song Uhamba Nobani.

His song, Ngaqonywa, made waves in the South African entertainment industry. In April 2020, the rapper dropped another ‘impressive Unplugged EP’ with Sound African Recordings being of assistance.
