Abubakar Kyari CON (born January 15, 1963) is a politician from Nigeria who serves as the Agriculture and Food Security Minister. From 2015 until his resignation in April 2022, he served as the senator for the Borno North Senatorial District. He belongs to the All Progressives Congress and was its temporary national chairman in 2023.

Abubakar Kyari CON (born January 15, 1963) is a Nigerian politician who now serves as Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.
He represented the Borno North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 till his resignation in April 2022 to become the APC’s Deputy National Chairman, North.
Kyari served briefly as the APC’s national chairman in 2023 before being appointed minister by President Bola Tinubu on August 16, 2023.
He was educated in Nigeria and the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee Martin and an MBA from Webster University in St. Louis. President Muhammadu Buhari bestowed upon him the Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON) award.
Abubakar Kyari Early Life
Born on January 15, 1963, Kyari was the son of Brigadier Abba Kyari, who served as North Central State’s military ruler from 1967 until 1975. His siblings are number eight.
Abubakar Kyari Education
He received his education in the United States as well as Nigeria. In the year 1974, he went to Kaduna Capital School. After that, he went to Barewa College in Zaria, where he earned his WASSCE. in 1979.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1986 while he was a student at the University of Tennessee, Martin US.
He then went to Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1989 to earn his master’s degree in business administration (MBA).
Abubakar Kyari Political Career
Kyari was elected to the Nigerian House of Representatives in 1998 on the platform of the United Nigeria Congress Party, but he did not enter office because the party was dissolved by General Abdulsalami Abubakar following General Sani Abacha’s death.
From 1998 to 1999, he served as State Treasurer of the All People’s Party (APP), Borno State branch.
He was re-elected to the House of Representatives on the APP platform at the start of the fourth republic in 1999, where he served from 1999 to 2003.
Governor Ali Modu Sheriff named him Borno State Commissioner for Water Resources in 2003, a position he held until 2005.
From 2005 to 2007, he was the managing director of the Rural Water Supply Agency in Borno State. In 2007, he was named Borno State Commissioner for Education, where he served until 2008.
Governor Sheriff reappointed him as commissioner for Water Resources, where he served from 2008 to 2010, then as commissioner for Home Affairs and Information from 2010 to 2011, and finally as commissioner of Works in 2011. He was Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima’s Chief of Staff from 2011 to 2014.
Kyari was elected to the Senate in 2015 on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress and re-elected in 2019, where he served until April 2022, when he resigned to become APC deputy national chairman, North.
Following the resignation of APC national chairman Abdullahi Adamu on July 17, 2023, he became the party’s acting national chairman.
After being screened and confirmed by the Senate, President Bola Tinubu named him Minister of Agriculture and Food Security on August 16, 2023.

In October 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari conferred on him the Nigerian national honor of Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON).
