Drug Use
Just before the IAAF World Championships were about to begin in 2009, Yohan Blake tested positive for 4-methyl-2-hexanamine – a stimulant and dietary supplement that has been implicated in the deaths and suspensions of numerous athletes over the years. The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission organized a disciplinary panel that cleared Blake of any infraction, as the substance was not on the organization’s list of banned drugs. The Commission did not agree with its panel and argued that disciplinary measures should indeed be put into effect. In the midst of the arguments, the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association withdrew Blake from the Championship’s relay race. He would later be placed under a three-month ban against competing.
Injuries
In April of 2013, Yohan Blake suffered an injury to his hamstring. He eventually returned to competing but, the following year injured his hamstring again. Even after the injuries healed completely, it took Blake some time to get back to speed, and he didn’t regain his ease of racing until 2016.
